2 Common Water Heater Issues and What You Should Do

Water heater problems are something that no homeowner wants to face. Since your home’s water heater is likely the costliest component of your indoor plumbing, these issues can be disheartening. The good news is that there are a couple water heater problems that are relatively easy to figure out. We are here to assist you with any repair or replacement needs, but before you give us a call, check out the 2 most common water heater issues and what you can do about them below.

1. Temperature Control

Have you noticed that your water is either too hot or not getting hot enough? Fixing this problem could be as simple as adjusting the thermostat on the unit. Ideally, the temperature for your household’s hot water should be set between 120 and 140 degrees. Now if there’s no hot water coming from the tank at all despite your settings, then the problem could be a broken heating element. Or, if your device is powered by natural gas, it could be a broken thermocouple. Replacing the appropriate component should restore your hot water supply immediately.

2. Excessive Noise

If your hot water tank bangs, creaks, knocks, or whines, the problem is likely sediment that has built up inside the tank. When this debris comes into contact with the heating element, it makes a lot of noise because the heating element is literally burning the sediment away. Flushing the tank is the best way to correct this problem. If you do this, but you are still hearing excessive noise, then the heating element may be burning out. If this is the case, the heating element will need to be replaced.
