Unfrozen Winter Winners Enjoy Their Disney Cruise

You may recall the cute Hall family who were the winners of our Unfrozen Winter contest earlier this year. Check out their adorable snowman submission!

Stevenson Service Experts sent the Halls on a Disney Cruise and paid for airfare for four. Rebecca and Bradley (Mom and Dad) took their two oldest children, Korbin and Brooke, on their Disney Cruise during mid-summer. Korbin and Brooke had never been on a cruise before and Rebecca and Bradley hadn’t been in about 10 years.

“I can’t begin to explain the amount of fun we had and how absolutely amazing everything was,” wrote Rebecca. “It was a getaway we could have never made happen on our own. Disney does cruising right!”

The Halls were kind enough to give us their itinerary and some pictures from their incredible trip. If you’re thinking about going on a Disney Cruise, or just want to find out what it’s all about, keeping reading for the highlights from the Hall’s trip.

Monday

We were on the ship for a couple days (Saturday and Sunday) and then landed in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. We scheduled a Catamaran and went out with 4 other families for several hours. It was my son and daughter’s first time snorkeling and they loved it. We spotted turtles and stingrays – it was quite possibly the coolest experience of the entire trip!

Tuesday

We traveled from Tortola to St. Thomas in the American Virgin Islands, where we got to snorkel even more, went swimming, and laid out on the beach. The water was truly that turquoise blue that they show on TV – truly perfect.

Thursday

We were on the ship all day Wednesday and then ported at Castaway Cay, Disney’s Exclusive Island. The water was so blue and had clear visibility below, so of course we had to do more snorkeling! They had hidden Mickey Mouses you could look for underwater, which made up for not having as many fish. They also had an adults-only beach which we lounged around on while the kids played basketball, pool, and shuffleboard. Castaway Cay had staff everywhere to keep an eye on the kids so we (Bradley and Rebecca) laid out and had a daiquiri. It was just like a floating Disneyland!

Aboard

We get goosebumps thinking about everything on the cruise ship – it was all so fun and unforgettable! They have a “Midship Detective Agency” where you pick the mystery you want to solve and Disney gives you a card so you can keep track of all your clues. When you hold the card up to a painting, it springs to life – it talks to you, tells you about the mystery you are working to solve, and gives you signals and directions. One mystery lasted two hours because we were going all over the cruise ship.

They are constantly showing first-run movies out near the pool so we got to enjoy Jungle Book. We also got to experience the Aqua Duct, which is a big slide that zooms you up and down and swings you out over the boat!

All of us went Goofy Golfing and they also have other games and a Tween Club called Edge with things like scavenger huntsand more.

It’s really easy to meet characters on the cruise – you only have to wait three or four minutes versus a half-hour or more at Disneyland. We met about two each day, and one day we met five in a row! They also have several versions of the characters, including Captain Mickey, Traditional Mickey, etc.

The actual room was incredible! We had an ocean view room with a large porthole and window seat. The room was a really great size and all four of us were comfortable and never felt squished.

Dining

You go between three restaurants. Enchanted Garden has awesome flower lights on the ceiling that open and close and the ceiling changes colors throughout your meal and Royal Court was very elegant and reminded me of Cinderella. The food is very gourmet and they have a great variety. My son tried everything, even the escargot at the Royal Court. (He said it tasted like dirt!)

Animators Palette is animation-themed and they leave markers on your table so you can illustrate a figure. They provide a tutorial on how to draw a figure, then they collect the drawings and at the end of your dinner, they animate your drawings on these screens on the wall. You have no warning! They choreograph them to music and position them in Disney clips. My daughter is our artist so she did really well with hers and was elated – the rest of us weren’t quite as proud

“Our family cannot thank Service Experts enough for this incredible experience,” Rebecca wrote after they returned from their cruise. “I get teary-eyed when I think about the experience as a whole. Submitting an entry I never thought would go anywhere, learning we were a finalist, the anxious voting stage, the big reveal, reading about and picking which cruise, the anticipation of going and finally experiencing an unbelievable adventure. It was such an amazing time living it all. We are so grateful!”
